International Membership

International Breeders are Welcome to Join the ALAA!

The ALAA is delighted to announce that we will be accepting International/European Breeder Member applications.  Our goals are to facilitate International breeder cooperation, provide the world’s best resource of health documentation for Australian Labradoodles and Labradoodles, and to promote responsible breeding of Australian Labradoodles worldwide.  In order to qualify as an International/European Breeder Member of the ALAA you must own at least one Australian Labradoodle breeding dog which meets the below requirements, and have a website which is available in English.

The ALAA Code of Ethics and Rules and Regulations will apply to all Breeder Members, including International/European members.  However, if there is a discrepancy between the ALAA Code of Ethics and regional laws, such as laws regulating breeding practices or limiting sterilization, the laws of the Breeder Member’s country of residence will supersede the ALAA Code of Ethics.  International/European members will have slightly higher registration and membership fees to cover the additional costs of international postage.

International Dog Registration Requirements

There are two paths to registration with the ALAA, one is a "100% traceable" pedigree and the other is by having an "unverified" pedigree.  The new registration acceptance policy applies to all breeders, in all countries. There are many dogs that are advanced in generation, and fully tested for generations that are being excluded because of the 100% traceable rule.  By allowing these dogs into the registry the ALAA is hoping to strengthen the breed, broaden the lines available for use, while keeping health a top priority.

All dogs in an ALAA Member Breeder program have to meet one of the two listed criteria for registration, as well as adhere to all ALAA Breeder Member Rules and Regulations.  The ALAA requires that a 6 generation pedigree be submitted, unless some generations are traceable through prior generations already in the ALAA database, or another accessible database such as AKC.

The 100% Traceable" Registration Requirements

  • American Kennel Club or Canadian Kennel Club registration names must be provided on all purebred dogs (Labrador Retrievers, Poodles, and Cocker Spaniels) in a six generation pedigree.

The "Unverified" Pedigree Registration Requirements

  • All dogs must have 3 generations of hip, elbow and eye testing (Dog being registered, Parents, and Grandparents).
  • Multi-generational Australian Labradoodles and must disclose any dogs in their pedigree which are untraceable as “unverified”.
  • Three generations of documented health testing will qualify Australian Labradoodles for registration, even if there is a hole in the pedigree.
  • The “unverified” dog may not be closer than three generations back.
  • All dogs being registered must either be tested for EIC (Exercise Induced Collapse) and prcd-PRA (Progressive Retinal Atrophy) or have known parentage PRA and EIC status.
  • All dogs being registered must have an ALAA approved DNA profile. (Paw Print Genetics:https://www.pawprintgenetics.com/parentage/product-select/) (results are available 3-4 weeks from lab receipt of samples)

If you have any questions about becoming an International/European Breeder Member of the ALAA, please contact our New Members Assistant, Rachael Reimer: newmembers@alaa-labradoodles.com

Disclaimers:  If you are unsure if a pedigree is registerable or not you can submit any pedigree for verification for a fee. Remember it is the responsibility of the Breeder Member to verify a pedigree prior to the use or purchase of said dog. The ALAA is not responsible for the registration of any dog that does not meet these requirements.
